About Me

Hey Everyone! 

I'm Ava Pratt, and I grew up in a small town in Maine, about an hour north of Portland. This is my second semester at UT, but I am technically a sophomore. My "hobbies" include traveling outdoors and exploring new places. It has been an all-time dream of mine to work remotely doing digital marketing and travel the world. 

As a marketing major, I am excited to take this course as it directly correlates with many things I will do throughout my career. I have never taken any digital media class, so this is new. I am excited to learn how to use software such as Adobe and other creative platforms, as they are good tools to have before entering the marketing/advertising field. Sometimes, I struggle with creativity, so I look forward to being pushed outside my comfort zone. 

A little fun fact about me is that once I realized that marketing might be a path that I'd be interested in, I reached out to a local advertising agency in Maine called Rinck. They offered me a job as a brand ambassador for two of their major clients, Dunkin' and Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. This got my foot in the door and taught me a lot about everything that goes into PR and marketing outreach events. I traveled with the companies for two summers and got to do things such as Dunkin' silent discos and work meet and greets with the Savannah Bananas when they were in town. This opportunity made me realize how much I love marketing and everything that goes into it.

My work reflects how I feel about my future and where I am today. The sun has always been a significant factor in my life as I love being outdoors. That was not possible when I lived in Maine. It was cold and dark there. So, the sun motivates me and gives me the energy to succeed. Also, I chose the sun because of its symbolism. In this case, the sun symbolizes a bright and happy future ahead of me. As you can see above, all the rays have something written within them; these are some of my values. And closer to the center, we see a statement showing where I am today. The way the letters are dragged down represents my ties to my past. The rays represent the future, and the sun's core represents the present. My inspiration was my letter to myself. In 20 years after reading through it, I felt a sun would be a great way to represent it. Ps HW 2

 Ps HW 2 Elaine Brown, 2009      This image stands out to me because of all the emotion behind her eyes and facial expressions. At first glance, we can point out that she is unhappy and looks miserable. The depths of her gaze show the pain she is in internally, and that is why I feel it is such a powerful image. The documentary taught me how close-up images of only a person's face can be so much more potent than a further away shot. Platon has mastered this technique, as seen in the documentary. His technique is powerful and shows the viewer the emotion of those photographed.     This image brought me close to my emotions because you could tell that there was something wrong, and Elaine did not seem happy. She seemed somewhat disappointed. She was chairman of the Black Panther Party, an organization that fought for equality and against police brutality.
